SELF-CLEANING FILTRATION TECHNOLOGY

Miscella Filter

Self-cleaning, automatic Miscella Filter that removes fine meal particles from miscella before distillation, keeping solvent extraction plants running without downtime.

Overview

Miscella Filter
Continuous Online Fines Removal & Clean Distillation

Every solvent extraction plant produces miscella, the mixture of crude oil and hexane that comes out of the extractor. This miscella always carries fine meal particles along with it, and these fines have to be removed before the miscella moves to distillation. That is the job of a Miscella Filter.

Super Techno Engineers designs and manufactures a Miscella Filter built for continuous plant operation. The filter removes fine solids from the miscella stream without stopping the flow, protects downstream distillation equipment from fouling, and keeps oil quality consistent batch after batch. Our Miscella Filter is used across oilseed extraction plants processing soybean, rice bran, mustard, groundnut, sunflower, cottonseed, and other seeds, and it is built to run reliably at capacities from 50 TPD to 1500+ TPD.

As a specialized Miscella Filter Manufacturer in India, we engineer our systems to be completely vapor-tight and automated, eliminating product degradation, solvent loss, and costly downtime in active extraction facilities.

How a Miscella Filter Works

Miscella coming out of the extractor still holds fine meal particles that pass through the extractor screens. If these fines are not removed, they settle in the distillation system, coat heat exchanger surfaces, and reduce oil clarity. The Miscella Filter takes this raw miscella and passes it through a fine filtering medium, usually a stainless steel wire mesh or filter cloth, which holds back the solid fines while letting clear miscella pass through to distillation.

The filtered miscella moves ahead for solvent recovery, while the collected fines are either returned to the extractor or sent for cake recovery, so almost no oil is lost with the rejected solids.

Self-Cleaning Miscella Filter

Fines build up on the filter surface during operation, and if they are not cleared, filtration slows down and pressure drop increases. Our Self-Cleaning Miscella Filter is designed to clear this build-up on its own, without shutting down the plant.

  • check_circle Rotary scraper or brush mechanism clears fines off the filter surface continuously.
  • check_circle Filtration rate stays steady since the surface is never allowed to choke.
  • check_circle No manual cleaning cycles needed during normal operation.
  • check_circle Reduces labor requirement and downtime compared to manual filters.

Automatic Miscella Filter

Plants running on tight schedules need filtration that does not depend on manual monitoring. The Automatic Miscella Filter from Super Techno Engineers runs on a set cleaning and discharge cycle, controlled through the plant's automation system.

  • check_circle Automatic timer-based or differential pressure-based cleaning cycle.
  • check_circle Fines discharge happens automatically without operator intervention.
  • check_circle Reduces the chances of human error during filtration.
  • check_circle Fits directly into existing plant control and instrumentation setup.

Online Miscella Filter for Continuous Operation

A Continuous Miscella Filter is built to run in line with the extractor, without breaking the miscella flow for cleaning or fines removal. This Online Miscella Filter design means the plant does not need a standby filter or a holding tank just to manage filter downtime.

  • check_circle Filtration and cleaning happen at the same time, without stopping flow.
  • check_circle Keeps miscella moving steadily toward the distillation section.
  • check_circle Reduces the need for extra miscella storage capacity.
  • check_circle Supports plants running 24-hour continuous extraction.
cyclone

Hydro Cyclone Alternative Miscella Filter

Many plants use hydrocyclones for fines separation, but hydrocyclones depend on particle size and density differences, which means very fine particles often pass through uncaptured. As a Hydro Cyclone Alternative Miscella Filter, our system uses mechanical filtration instead, which catches a much finer range of particles regardless of their density.

  • check_circle Captures finer particles than a hydrocyclone typically can.
  • check_circle Filtration performance does not depend on particle density.
  • check_circle Lower pressure drop across the system compared to multi-stage hydrocyclone setups.
  • check_circle Easier to inspect and maintain than a bank of hydrocyclones.

Build Quality & Material of Construction

The Miscella Filter housing is fabricated from stainless steel or mild steel with stainless steel contact parts, depending on the client's process requirements. Since the filter handles solvent-laden miscella continuously, the vessel is designed as a fully closed, vapor-tight unit to prevent hexane loss and keep the operation safe.

  • verified Filter housing in carbon steel or SS 304, contact parts upgradable on request.
  • verified Vapor-tight construction to prevent solvent vapor leakage.
  • verified Wear-resistant filter mesh rated for continuous duty.
  • verified Structural design to handle sustained operating pressure without deformation.

System Integration

Miscella Filter for Solvent Extraction Plant

The Miscella Filter is not a standalone unit. It is positioned directly in the miscella line between the extractor and the distillation section, so it needs to match the flow rate, pressure, and layout of the rest of the plant. Super Techno Engineers designs the Miscella Filter as part of the full solvent extraction plant, so it integrates with the extractor discharge, the miscella tank, and the distillation feed without creating a bottleneck anywhere in the line.

Step 01

Process Evaluation

We study the extractor's miscella output, fines load, and flow rate to size the filter correctly for the plant.

"Before installing the self-cleaning Miscella Filter from Super Techno Engineers, fine meal carryover into our distillation column caused frequent heat exchanger fouling and downtime. Since installing this online filter, fines carryover has dropped well below 1%, and our distillation train operates with steady vacuum and zero scaling."

Support & Information

Frequently Asked Questions

It removes fine meal particles from the miscella coming out of the extractor, before the miscella goes to distillation for solvent recovery.

A hydrocyclone separates fines based on particle density and size, while a Miscella Filter uses mechanical filtration, which can capture finer particles more consistently.

No. The self-cleaning and automatic designs clear fines from the filter surface while the plant keeps running, so there is no need to stop miscella flow for cleaning.

Our Miscella Filter is available for plants ranging from 50 TPD to 1500+ TPD.

Yes. It can be installed in the miscella line of an existing extraction plant as long as the flow rate and pressure requirements are matched during design.

The fines collected by the filter are sent back to the extractor or to cake recovery, so the oil trapped in them is not wasted.
